but in view of the apprehension expressed in the last para-

graph of sir J. Jordan's telegram, he muld be glad to be

informed of the exact nature of the roduction uroposed in the

transport establishment, which he trusts will not in any case

be such as to impair the efficiency of the force for the im

mediate performance in the event of a sudden emergency of

such dution as the protection of the route from l'aking to the

soa or the despatch of detachments for the protection of

isoluted british communities.
